Security Situation Improving in Manipur, Army Chief Says

The security situation in Manipur has significantly improved in 2025, as stated by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. He attributes this positive change to the decisive, neutral, and transparent actions taken by security forces, which have been bolstered by proactive government initiatives. General Dwivedi emphasized that the collaborative efforts of the military and local civil administration have been instrumental in restoring normalcy in the region. Noteworthy indicators of this improvement include the peaceful conduct of the Durand Cup football tournament and the revival of cultural festivals and community events, reflecting growing stability and public confidence.

Additionally, the renewal of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki insurgent groups in September 2025 has played a vital role in reducing violence and fostering an environment conducive to dialogue. General Dwivedi underscored the importance of maintaining robust security measures in tandem with inclusive governance to ensure the continued peace and stability in Manipur and across the broader Northeast region.
