Three active members of banned insurgent groups were arrested in coordinated operations throughout Manipur since December 1, as part of an initiative aimed at dismantling extortion networks and militant activities in the region. Security forces apprehended a cadre of the United National Liberation Front (K) in Uripok Yambem Leikai, Imphal West district, on Tuesday. This operative, identified as Laishram Pronanjit Singh (alias Jit or Thondonba), aged 25, was involved in extortion activities, and police confiscated a mobile phone from him that was allegedly used for such communications.
On the same day, authorities arrested another cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), identified as 40-year-old Thounaojam Yaima Meitei, at his residence in Langthabal Kunja Makha Leikai, also within Imphal West district. Along with him, a mobile phone and a SIM card were seized.
In a separate incident on the same day, an operative from the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army was apprehended in Waikhong, Kakching district. Thounaojam Subhashchandra Meitei, hailing from Wabagai Keirak Achouba, had a mobile phone confiscated during his arrest.
Security officials suggested that these detentions could lead to significant insights into broader extortion schemes and the operational connections among various insurgent factions active in Manipur.
