Security forces intensify search for illegal bunkers in Manipur

In a series of coordinated search operations across Manipur’s hill and valley districts, security forces have intensified efforts to dismantle illegal bunkers and recover arms, aiming to curb insurgent activities. A key operation in Mongbung Village, Jiribam District, saw the destruction of a fortified bunker, marking a significant move against unlawful elements.

On September 16, security forces conducted further operations in Chanung and C Zoulen villages in Imphal East District, resulting in the seizure of a cache of weapons. Recovered items included a locally-made single-barrel firearm, an SLR magazine, 21 rounds of live ammunition, a locally-made mortar (pompi), and a BAOFENG radio set without a battery, pointing to potential insurgent activity in the region.

In a simultaneous raid in Chandel District, near the border between Gunjil and border pillars 48 and 49, more arms and protective gear were unearthed. The seized items included a pistol, a hand grenade with ignitor, three local mortars, four live rounds, and two bulletproof jackets.
