Security Beefed Up In Manipur’s Torbung Area After Attack By Armed Groups

Security has been heightened in the Torbung area following indiscriminate gunfire attributed to suspected Kuki armed groups. The Manipur police reported that joint security forces are engaged in comprehensive combing operations to ensure public safety. Senior police officials, including the Deputy Inspector General, have visited the incident site to assess the situation. During these operations, various weapons were recovered in Kangvai, including one Long Range Improvised Pumpi, four Medium Range Improvised Pumpi, one Medium Range Barrel-Blasted Improvised Pumpi, an IED weighing approximately 3 kilograms, a Single Barrel firearm, and 17 empty cartridges of different calibers.

The Bomb Disposal Squad safely disposed of the recovered IED, and security remains tight in the area, with the police affirming that the situation is under control. An FIR has been filed for further investigation into the attack. Additionally, in a separate operation, security forces apprehended an active member of the banned organization SOREPA in the Lamding Nashikhong Leikai area, identified as Khundrakpam Bitanjit Meitei alias Tomcha (31), along with a mobile phone and SIM card during the arrest.
