Second meeting of AWG in Chandigarh under India’s G20 Presidency

Chandigarh is hosting the 2nd meeting of the Agriculture Working Group (AWG) under India’s G20 Presidency that began on Wednesday. On the first day of this 3-day agriculture representative meeting, representatives of different countries expressed their views on the development of food market at the international level. The establishment of a rapid response platform for food market situation and agriculture market information system was emphasized in the 6 sessions held during the meeting.

The meeting also focused on the capacity building needs for the agriculture sector and the ‘Impact of Financial Factors in Imports’. Apart from this, the member countries also deliberated on a special topic ‘Asia’s role in regional and global food security’. The objective of the AWG meeting is to bring G20 member countries on one platform to work towards a sustainable future for agriculture and food security. In the second meeting of agricultural representatives, four important issues related to agriculture will be discussed – food security & nutrition, sustainable agriculture with smart approach towards climate, inclusive agriculture value chain and digitization for food system & agriculture transformation.

During the next two days, there will be detailed discussions among the member countries on topics like food security and nutrition. Food Festival of Millets will be organized on March 30 at Rock Garden, Chandigarh. In this, the delegates will be made aware of the coarse grains produced in the country and its benefits. The AWG meeting is being attended by 19 member countries, 10 invited countries and representatives from 10 international organizations.
