In a historic milestone, State Bank of India, Shillong branch on Monday celebrated 100 years of service to the people of Meghalaya. The centenary celebration was held at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong, under the theme “Celebrating a Milestone of Service, Trust and Commitment to the Community.” The programme began with the inauguration of the heritage gallery followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp and theme song presented by the employees of SBI Shillong Branch. Special centenary stamps were released to mark the occasion.
Gracing the event as chief guest was Shillong Lok Sabha constituency MP Ricky A J Syngkon lauded the State Bank of India for its century-long contribution towards nation-building and regional development, particularly in Meghalaya. He highlighted the bank’s role in empowering communities, supporting small businesses, and fostering financial literacy. The event witnessed the presence of senior bank officials, customers, and members of the public who have been associated with the Shillong Branch over the decades.
Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Anootpol Roy, assistant general manager of SBI Shillong Branch, reflected on the bank’s role in promoting financial inclusion, supporting entrepreneurship, and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region. He reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to innovation, digital banking, and customer-centric services. Cultural performances, video presentations, and interactive sessions marked the celebration.
