‘Save Manipur’ Rally Draws Thousands Amid Ongoing Crisis

Thousands participated in the “Save Manipur” rally organized by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) to affirm their commitment to protecting the territorial integrity of the state. The rally commenced from Tiddim Ground in Kwakeithel and concluded at Thau Ground in Thangmeiband, covering a distance of approximately 5 km. Participants displayed placards and chanted slogans emphasizing that there should be “No compromise to Manipur’s territorial and administrative integrity,” opposing any attempts to divide the state, and calling for the re-settlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their homes. The diverse crowd included individuals from various backgrounds, including non-Manipuris, Meitei Pangals, the Naga community, and Meiteis. Notably, Bidyaluxmi Oinam articulated the participants’ unified stance, insisting that the integrity of Manipur must remain intact. Similarly, Khagembam Surjit remarked on the historical roots of the land, attributing its establishment to their forefathers rather than immigrants from Myanmar. Protesters also urged the Government of India to address ongoing security issues and restore peace, reflecting their strong desire to maintain the unity and sovereignty of the state. In response to the rally, security measures were heightened throughout the capital to ensure order.
