Samsung, India’s largest consumer electronics brand, has launched the country’s first-ever design thinking and training workshop in select schools. Samsung’s ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ initiative focuses on improving students’ problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and probing skills through the Human-Centered Design Thinking framework. The national education and innovation competition aims to foster a culture of innovation amongst the next generation.
The workshops aim to integrate design-thinking education into academic curriculums and assist over 2,000 school students in applying for competitions. The winning team of School Track, known as the ‘Community Champion,’ will receive an INR 25 Lakh grant for prototype advancement. The design thinking workshop is designed to motivate students over 14 years to tackle societal issues by developing innovative solutions.
Tailored specifically for India, the one-day workshop has been conceptualised to encourage students to appreciate the idea of design thinking and nudge them to identify and solve real-world problems. As part of the academic curriculum, Human-Centered Design Thinking is a powerful practice for solving-problems. The Human Centred Design framework utilizes design processes and tools to enhance user lives through empathy, definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing of solutions. SP Chun, Corporate Vice President, Samsung Southwest Asia said, “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is part of our vision to empower the next generation and create an ecosystem of innovation in the country”.
