The Centre for Women and Girls (CWG), in collaboration with Assam Rifles, conducted a successful awareness programme on Slope Agricultural Land Techniques (SALT) in Longja Village, Chandel District. This initiative aimed to equip local farmers with practical knowledge to boost agricultural productivity while prioritizing environmental protection. Led by David Gandhi, an agricultural expert from Pune, the session highlighted sustainable farming practices for hilly terrains, focusing on soil erosion prevention, soil fertility maintenance, and eco-friendly fertilization methods to enhance crop yields. Gandhi also discussed the impact of changing weather patterns, stressing the need for adaptive strategies for long-term agricultural sustainability. The event saw strong engagement from villagers and local farmers, who actively participated in discussions and sought advice on implementing these techniques in their unique contexts. Gandhi’s interactions inspired participants to adopt modern yet sustainable farming methods to improve their livelihoods, according to an IGAR(S) press release.
