S Supongmeren Jamir urges swift action on Nagaland peace agreements

Congress MP S Supongmeren Jamir has criticized the delay in implementing Nagaland’s Framework Agreement and Agreed Position, urging the central government to act swiftly to ensure peace and progress in the state. Speaking during the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in Parliament, Jamir pointed out that while the government boasted about signing ten peace agreements in the Northeast, Nagaland’s two crucial agreements—signed almost a decade ago—remain unfulfilled.

Highlighting the presence of 26 factions operating in Nagaland, he lamented the widespread taxation and corruption, questioning whether the central government, state government, or Naga political groups should be held accountable for the ongoing instability. He stressed that timely implementation of these agreements is essential for lasting peace and economic development. The Congress MP also expressed concern over the omission of secularism in the President’s speech, emphasizing its importance in preserving India’s diverse cultural fabric.

Additionally, Jamir raised the infrastructure issues at Nagaland University, citing the lack of sports facilities, hostels, and laboratories, and urged the central government to allocate necessary resources. He also called for more seats for minority students and those from other states to promote inclusivity in education.
