Assamese all-rounder Riyan Parag is poised to become the Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) new captain. A formal statement will be made this evening, according to a source, and the RR management has chosen to give Riyan the captaincy. Sanju Samson will be replaced by Ritan, the captain of the Assam cricket team, for the 2026 Indian Premier League season. The decision by the Jaipur-The think tank preferred Riyan, who has been with the team since his IPL debut in 2019, above other candidates like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and even the seasoned Ravindra Jadeja. Prior to the 2025 edition of the lucrative league, the RR unit has continuously supported the young player and even paid Rs 14 crore to retain him. He was always being prepared for more significant responsibilities within the team, and last season, when he filled in as captain when Sanju Samson was injured, was the big clue. Based team to move Sanju Samson to the Chennai Super Kings coincides with the change in captaincy.
