Ri-Bhoi Forum to Host Niangtaser Festival Celebrating ‘World Cup’ Insect

The Ri-Bhoi Tourism and Environmental Development Forum is set to host the Ñiangtaser Festival on April 8 and 9, 2026, celebrating a local insect also referred to as the “World Cup insect” due to its four-year emergence coinciding with the FIFA World Cup. Chairman Plielad Tiewsoh announced that the festival, in collaboration with the Dorbar Shnong of Saiden, will take place at Ïewsier near the Nongkhyllem forest area. The two-day event will feature a range of cultural activities, including traditional dance and folk song competitions, with participants from various regions. A fashion show will also be a highlight. Additionally, a football tournament will be held at Saiden Playground, culminating in a fishing competition at Ïewsier river on the final day, with cash prizes for winners. An open invitation to the public has been extended, promising engaging activities for all attendees throughout the festival weekend.
