Retiring Rooms and Dormitory at Guwahati Station Renovated Under NFR Initiative

Rail passengers at Guwahati railway station are set to benefit from upgraded amenities aimed at enhancing their comfort during layovers. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has initiated significant improvements to the retiring rooms and dormitory facilities at the station, with the upgrades officially inaugurated by NF Railway General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava and other senior officials. The renovated retiring room complex, situated on the first floor, features a total of nine rooms—seven with two beds each and two larger rooms with five beds each—alongside a new 12-bed dormitory.

These enhancements include converting all guest rooms into fully air-conditioned spaces outfitted with comfortable beds and improved interiors, ensuring a modern and hygienic environment for travelers. The renovations underscore a commitment to passenger comfort during transit in one of Northeast India’s key transport hubs.

Additionally, this upgrade is expected to offer a notable boost to non-fare revenue generation for the Railways. NFR anticipates generating approximately Rs 1.94 crore over the five-year contract period due to the new facility management model, which entails no maintenance, operational, or renovation costs. This new arrangement marks a marked improvement compared to the previous in-house management model that incurred ongoing expenses and yielded lower profits.
