Relief Provided to Family of Fallen VDF Jawan

On December 28, the Village Defence Force (VDF) in Heirok extended financial assistance to the family of the late Laishram Budha, who died after a prolonged illness. Budha, a VDF personnel and son of Laishram Tampha, was honored with a collective monetary contribution of ₹1,38,500, handed over to his wife, Laishram Ongbi Suni, during a recent event. Khumanthem Gunadhor, Commander of VDF Heirok E-Company, emphasized that the VDF has consistently supported the families of deceased members, particularly in alleviating household difficulties. Future assistance, including educational support for the deceased’s children, was promised, although Gunadhor acknowledged it may not cover all needs.

Gunadhor also highlighted a critical gap in support for families of VDF personnel who die in service, urging the Manipur Government to consider implementing compensation measures. He noted that current provisions for financial support are lacking, and such recognition is vital for the families who sacrifice for peace and security.

The VDF in Heirok was established in 2008 in response to public demand following a tragic shooting incident during the Yaosang festival, which claimed three lives and injured another. The financial assistance program saw participation from multiple commanders of different VDF companies, indicating a united front in supporting bereaved families.
