Reckitt, a global leader in consumer health and hygiene, has unveiled its ambitious Rainbow Classrooms initiative in partnership with Plan India under the Durex The Birds and Bees Talk (TBBT) program. This initiative aims to transform educational environments across Northeast India into inclusive spaces by promoting gender inclusivity and fluidity.
The initiative introduces vibrant, rainbow-colored classroom doors as symbols of inclusivity and recognition for schools championing diversity. Supported by the Government of India and aligned with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), the program includes India’s first gender diversity course designed specifically for teachers. This course equips educators with essential tools and knowledge to support students on issues related to gender identity effectively. Gaurav Jain, Executive Vice President of Reckitt – South Asia, emphasized the initiative’s significance: “The Rainbow Classrooms initiative reflects our commitment to creating safe and supportive educational environments. By empowering educators and enhancing school spaces, we aim to foster a culture of acceptance and respect.”
The initiative will include a series of engaging activities across Sikkim, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh, including painting competitions and workshops on gender equality. As part of its broader commitment to community support, Reckitt plans to extend the initiative’s impact to regions including Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh and Gangtok in Sikkim.
