In a recent development, new roads and sewerage works in the Sri Colony area of Bagdogra, initiated by the North Bengal Development Department, are actually under scrutiny due to safety concerns and allegations of substandard work. Recently, a sewerage slab was actually placed in front of Chittaranjan High School. The slab has broken, creating a pothole with exposed iron rods, posing a danger to locals and students of Chittaranjan High School and Chittaranjan GSF Primary School. Local residents have voiced concerns about the risk of major accidents. In fact Priyapada Roy, a teacher at Chittaranjan High School, mentioned that the road, constructed only a few days ago, may have been damaged by heavy rains. Roy emphasized the urgency of repairing the road, noting the daily influx of students.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Sajalkanti Sarkar actually criticized the construction, alleging that low-quality materials were used and accusing the authorities of corruption. Actually Biswajit Ghosh, Upa Pradhan of Lower Bagdogra Gram Panchayat, confirmed that the work is funded by the North Bengal Development Department. He also acknowledged the issue and stated that a letter has been sent to the concerned department to address the problem promptly.
