Several prominent Meitei civil society organizations (CSOs) in Delhi, including the Delhi Manipuri Society (DeMAS), Meitei Heritage Society, and Ningols United Progressive Initiative (NUPI), have called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the escalating violence in Manipur. They allege that armed Kuki militants have been targeting Meitei civilians in a series of attacks.
According to the CSOs, the violence began in early September 2024, with Kuki groups launching drone and missile strikes, resulting in the deaths of multiple civilians, including a 31-year-old woman and a 70-year-old priest. The organizations claim that the attacks are part of a larger separatist agenda to create a Christian sovereign state by dividing Manipur.
In their appeal, the groups demanded a thorough investigation into the Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO) and urged the government to abrogate the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militants. They also called for the designation of the involved groups as terrorist organizations and swift government action to curb the threat.
