Rdss Scheme Implementation Prompts Regulated Power Shutdown In Shillong, Tura

A regulated electrical shutdown is currently underway in Shillong and Tura even as the Meghalaya government has assured the people of the state of every effort to minimise inconvenience.“This shutdown is a necessary part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), a critical initiative aimed at strengthening the power infrastructure in the state,” a statement issued by the state government said.

The RDSS scheme involves the installation of approximately 2600 new transformers, the replacement of 3800 km of old wires, and the laying of 4300 km of new lines. This ambitious project, valued at Rs 900 crore, is being implemented to ensure a more stable and reliable power supply for the people of Meghalaya.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has assured the public that every effort is being made to minimise the inconvenience caused by the shutdown. “The government is working closely with MeECL and the Power Department to improve communication and ensure timely updates are provided to the public,” Sangma stated. “We understand that this shutdown may cause inconvenience, but it is a necessary step towards achieving our goal of providing better power infrastructure for the people of Meghalaya,” he stated.

Seeking the cooperation and patience of the public during the shutdown period, the Meghalaya government assured the people of the state that the benefits of the RDSS project will be seen in the improved power supply in the coming days.
