Even though it is raining in the state, there is no forecast of heavy rain in South Bengal, including Kolkata, the Alipore Meteorological Department said. However, the forecast for the next few days calls for light to moderate rain over several parts of South Bengal districts. There may also be rain with thunder at some places. A heavy rain warning has been issued in Purulia, West Burdwan, and Birbhum districts on Friday. Fishermen have been banned from the North Bay of Bengal due to rough seas.
Heavy rain is predicted in five districts of North Bengal on Friday. These districts are Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and North Dinajpur. No rain forecast till Sunday in Cooch Behar. However, it has been reported that there may be heavy rain in this district starting Monday.
According to the Meteorological Department, a monsoon storm passing over the state is still active. The Meteorological Office had earlier informed that a cyclone is currently present over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas. It is spread over 3.1 km above sea level. But the vortex is gradually moving towards Bangladesh. It is also weaker than before. It is already raining in the monsoon season in various districts. Due to the cyclone, that rain increased.
Kolkata will remain cloudy throughout the day on Friday. There will also be light to moderate rain with thundershowers. The city can have a maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius. Kolkata’s maximum temperature on Thursday was 28.3 degrees Celsius, about four degrees below normal, and the minimum temperature was 26.2 degrees Celsius, which is almost normal for the time.
