In a case involving the alleged collection of funds by Maulvi Sarjan Barkati, the target of “anti-national” protests in 2016, and the alleged use of those funds for personal gain, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids at eight locations on Saturday, according to officials.
An investigation into Barkati’s fund-raising activities as well as his “anti-national” comments was launched earlier this year by the SIA, a division of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The officials said that more than Rs 1.5 crore were purportedly raised through crowdfunding and from sources that are linked to terrorism and used for profiteering, personal gain, and the advancement of secessionist-terrorist movements.
