Pro Panja League Announces Arunachal Pradesh’s Onam Gamno As India Captain

The Pro Panja League has appointed Onam Gamno from Arunachal Pradesh as the captain of Team India for the upcoming Asian Cup Arm Wrestling Championship. This decision comes following a surge of patriotic sentiment in Arunachal Pradesh, particularly after China’s recent actions concerning Indian national Prema Thongdok, which ignited local pride, evidenced by citizens singing “Vande Mataram” and displaying flags. At 27, Captain Onam Gamno, from Ngopok village in East Siang district, has numerous accolades to her name, including silver and bronze medals at the 2024 Asian Cup in Mumbai, a bronze at the 2025 National Armwrestling Championship, and two gold medals at the 2023 National Armwrestling Championship.

Her achievements have made her a role model for young athletes in the Northeast of India, demonstrating exceptional skill and leadership. Gamno expressed her pride in serving as captain by stating her commitment to representing India on a global stage. Preeti Jhangiani, President of the People’s Arm Wrestling Federation of India, affirmed the significance of Gamno’s leadership, alongside vice-captain Shrimant Jha, highlighting their embodiment of the league’s values of determination and unity.
