Former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Kumar Borah indicated his imminent departure from the Congress party, citing a scheduled meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Although Borah resigned from Congress, he was later requested by the party’s high command to reconsider his resignation. He highlighted his longstanding relationship with Sarma, tracing their political ties back to the early 1990s. He expressed dissatisfaction with the current leadership dynamics within the APCC, hinting at favoritism and lack of inclusive decision-making. Sarma welcomed Borah to join the BJP, promising a secure candidacy for the upcoming Assembly elections. Following Borah’s quick resignation and reconsideration, AICC leader Jitendra Singh and other senior Congress figures visited him to persuade him to remain, emphasizing the party as a family that resolves internal conflicts. Borah stated he would take time to consult with his family before making a final decision on his resignation.
