Manipur Police on September 10, issued a press note addressing the violent protests in the state capital, urging citizens to demonstrate peacefully. According to the police, a large group, mostly consisting of students, violated curfew orders and marched towards Raj Bhavan, leading to clashes with law enforcement.
The police, along with an Executive Magistrate, attempted to disperse the crowd peacefully. However, tensions escalated when miscreants infiltrated the protest and began pelting stones at officers. In response, security personnel used “mild force” at BT Road and Kakwa Bazar to control the situation. Several individuals, including police officers, sustained minor injuries and are receiving treatment. The authorities emphasized the importance of lawful protests, stating that demonstrations should be conducted only with prior approval from the relevant authorities.
Manipur Police also warned against the spread of fake news and misinformation on social media, stating that they are closely monitoring such activities and will take strict legal action against offenders. Additionally, ongoing search operations led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, including sniper rifles and explosives. The police appealed to the public to return any looted arms to the nearest authorities to help restore peace in the region.
