Police Complaint Against Activist Ashang Kasar Rejected by TSA

The Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) has dismissed a police complaint against social activist Ashang Kasar as a “baseless” attempt to exploit the Thadou community’s name and escalate ethnic tensions in Manipur. The complaint was filed on March 15 by Lungoulen Guite, claiming Kasar disseminated “false and misleading” information during a televised discussion about the killings of two Kuki men. Guite sought an FIR against Kasar, asserting that Kasar’s comments distorted the facts of the incident, potentially inflaming community tensions. The TSA rebutted the complaint, noting that the killings had no ties to the Thadou community and criticized Guite’s authority to represent them, labeling his group as a “fraudulent” entity with a perceived Kuki supremacist agenda. The TSA contended that Kasar’s remarks were made in the context of heightened tensions between Naga and Kuki groups and condemned the complaint as a strategy to suppress open discourse and intimidate critics. They emphasized the distinct identity of the Thadou community and demanded an end to misuse of their name for political gain, affirming their commitment to defend their autonomy and right to self-representation.
