PM will inaugurate India’s first nature-themed airport terminal with Kaziranga-inspired green landscapes in Guwahati

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam for two days, arriving in Guwahati on December 20. His visit will commence with the inauguration of the New Terminal Building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport, which he will address upon arrival at approximately 3 pm. On December 21, at around 9:45 am, he will pay tribute to martyrs at Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon, Guwahati, before proceeding to Namrup in Dibrugarh for the Bhoomi Pujan of the Ammonia-Urea Project managed by Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Ltd.

The inauguration of the new terminal represents a significant development in Assam’s infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and economic growth. Spanning nearly 1.4 lakh square meters, the terminal is designed to accommodate up to 1.3 crore passengers annually, featuring improvements in the runway, airfield systems, aprons, and taxiways. This terminal is notable for its nature-themed design, influenced by Assam’s wildlife and culture, under the motif of “Bamboo Orchids.” Approximately 140 metric tonnes of locally sourced bamboo have been used alongside Kaziranga-inspired landscaping, Japi motifs, iconic rhino symbols, and 57 orchid-inspired columns reflective of the Kopou flower. Additionally, a unique “Sky Forest” offers a forest-like ambiance with nearly one lakh indigenous plants, enriching the arrival experience.

Key advancements in passenger services and digital technology are highlighted by features such as full-body scanners for efficient security checks, DigiYatra-enabled systems for contactless travel, automated baggage handling, expedited immigration processes, and AI-driven operational management, all promoting security and travel efficiency.

On December 21, before heading to Namrup, Modi will also commemorate the martyrs of the Assam Movement, which was pivotal in advocating for a foreigner-free Assam and safeguarding the state’s identity. Later, he will oversee the Bhoomipujan of the Ammonia-Urea Fertilizer Project at Namrup within the site of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL). This project embodies Modi’s vision for Farmers’ Welfare, representing an investment exceeding Rs. 10,600 crore aimed at fulfilling local fertilizer needs, decreasing import reliance, fostering job creation, and stimulating regional economic growth, thereby being a cornerstone of both industrial revival and agricultural support.
