Prime Minister officially inaugurated projects in Bihar’s petroleum and natural gas sector, with investments totaling ₹4,027 crore, on November 13. Aligned with India’s Make in India and sustainability goals, these projects aim to expand access to cleaner fuel and enhance domestic production, particularly benefiting local industries and infrastructure.
A highlight is Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.’s (BPCL) ₹3,638 crore City Gas Distribution (CGD) network. Covering Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Sitamarhi, and Sheohar, the CGD network will supply piped natural gas (PNG) to households and businesses, promoting eco-friendly energy solutions across key districts. This initiative also includes new CNG stations and a pipeline from Begusarai, supporting both the government’s net-zero emissions target and local economic growth.
For Darbhanga, a regional hub with a high demand for reliable and sustainable energy, this project is transformative. The CGD network provides cleaner, affordable energy options that will boost operational efficiency for local businesses, helping them meet energy needs sustainably and affordably. This change is expected to foster greater economic activity in Darbhanga’s market, which is key for the region’s economic ecosystem. Additionally, a ₹389 crore Bitumen Manufacturing Unit at Indian Oil’s Barauni Refinery will reduce India’s dependence on bitumen imports, ensuring timely supply for infrastructure projects like Bharatmala Pariyojana, thus fueling industrial growth across Bihar.
