Plot to Ink-Attack Gaurav Gogoi Foiled; Assam Police File Preventive FIR, Says CM

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has accused elements within the Congress party of planning to stage violent incidents involving their own leaders to garner public sympathy ahead of the Assembly elections. He stated that police have taken preventive measures, including arrests, based on information received from a Congress “whistle-blower.” The alleged plan involved throwing ink at Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi to manipulate the political narrative against the ruling BJP. As a result, police registered a preventive FIR against three individuals: Sunil Kanagole, Saksham Marwah, and Adrita Das.

Sarma asserted that Marwah is linked to the organization Inclusive Minds, reportedly engaged by Congress for political strategizing. He claimed that two officials from this firm were orchestrating political activities for the party. One of these individuals allegedly approached police, expressing his disapproval of the plan. Ongoing investigations have led to at least one arrest and a notice issued to another individual, with more details expected in the coming days.

These allegations arose amidst concerns raised by Gogoi about his security, which was subsequently enhanced by the state government. The increased tensions between the BJP and Congress reflect a politically charged atmosphere as the elections approach, with the Chief Minister highlighting the need for law and order while Congress has accused the government of politicizing security. A detailed police statement has yet to be released as the investigation continues.
