The Government of India and the NSCN-(K) Niki faction have extended their ceasefire agreement for another year, starting from September 8, 2024. The decision was formalized during a meeting held in New Delhi on September 4.
The agreement was signed jointly by Piyush Goyal, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and representatives of NSCN-(K) Niki, including Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) supervisor Abel Zingrü Thuer and secretary Amenka Achumi.
As per the MHA, the ceasefire will be governed by the existing Ceasefire Ground Rules (CFGR), which were mutually agreed upon. Both parties may also review the rules and introduce amendments with mutual consent.
