Peace, Growth on Agenda as Naga, Kuki CSOs Meet in Chandel

A security coordination meeting was convened in Shalluk, Chandel District, with representatives from Naga and Kuki Civil Society Organisations, Ex Servicemen, and Village Chiefs. A total of 21 participants included 11 from the Naga community and 10 from the Kuki community, alongside senior officials from Assam Rifles HQ at Kakching, Sajik Tampak Battalion, and Joupi Battalion. This gathering aimed to reinforce commitments to peace, stability, and inclusive development within the region.

The meeting fostered constructive dialogue and mutual understanding, highlighting long-term peace and socio-economic development. Tourism emerged as a significant focus, identified as a key economic driver and a means to enhance inter-community trust. Participants discussed the need to identify and develop potential tourist destinations within Chandel District, viewing this as crucial for local livelihoods and cultural exchange.

Youth engagement was also prioritized, with suggestions for organizing inter-community sports competitions to foster camaraderie among different groups. Education was emphasized, with advocates calling for improved infrastructure and increased funding for schools in remote areas. The representatives acknowledged education as fundamental for sustained peace and development.

Both communities reaffirmed their dedication to harmonious resolutions of issues, while Assam Rifles expressed support for initiatives promoting unity and security. The meeting concluded positively, with all stakeholders committed to collaborating for a stable and prosperous future for Chandel District.
