Outrage Grows as Tribal Students Call for Justice in Capital-Based Racial Abuse Allegations

The All-Assam Tribal Students Union (AATSU) has called for a comprehensive investigation into an incident in which a couple allegedly directed racial slurs at three women from Arunachal Pradesh in New Delhi. The couple has been arrested and placed in 14 days’ judicial custody while Delhi Police conduct their investigation. AATSU expressed significant concern over the incident that occurred in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi, where the women were reportedly subjected to racial harassment following a minor dispute regarding repairs in their rented home.

Video footage and media reports indicate that the women were verbally attacked with derogatory comments and subjected to racial stereotypes related to their appearance and profession, reflecting deeper societal prejudices against individuals from Northeast India. AATSU characterized the incident as a severe violation of constitutional values, arguing that it represents not just a local disagreement but a manifestation of racial hostility and cultural contempt.

The union emphasized that such conduct undermines dignity, equality, and national unity, leading to distress for the affected women and all Northeastern citizens nationwide. AATSU petitioned the Delhi Police to perform a thorough and unbiased inquiry, including the scrutiny of evidence and witness testimonies, and called for stringent legal repercussions for the accused if found guilty under applicable laws.
