Shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the urgent issue and urged people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, M Srinivas, director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi, stated that obesity cases are increasing in rural areas just as much as in urban areas and emphasized the need to combat the disease. The largest obstacle, according to Mr. Srinivas, is that obesity is a “risk factor associated with everything.” The most prevalent condition is heart disease. He added that the number of obese people is rising, even in rural areas. Such issues are not limited to urban areas; they also exist in rural areas. He also emphasized the significance of exercising, eating healthily, and maintaining a positive lifestyle.
PM Modi stated earlier in the day on his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat that the number of obesity cases has doubled in recent years, with the increase in childhood cases being the more alarming. He challenged everyone to cut their oil consumption by 10% and encouraged them to use less oil in their food. Additionally, Mr. Srinivas stated that monitoring the oil intake is crucial. According to the director of AIIMS Delhi, a person is likely to be obese if their waist circumference is between 80 and 90 cm, regardless of gender.
