NSDMA Issues Statewide Alert for Thunderstorms and Strong Winds in Nagaland Till March 21

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather alert across the state, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, rainfall and strong winds till March 21.According to the advisory, weather conditions are expected to remain unstable from March 17 to 21, with most districts likely to witness frequent thunderstorms along with light to moderate rainfall. In some places, rainfall may be heavier, especially in Longleng district on March 17.

Officials said the weather activity is likely to be stronger on March 17 and 18. Conditions may start improving slightly in some areas from March 20, but scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue in different parts of the state.The authority has also warned of strong surface winds moving at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour on March 17 and 18. These winds may damage temporary structures, uproot trees, and affect power supply and transport services. Districts such as Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Mokokchung, Tuensang and Kiphire are likely to be affected.

Widespread thunderstorms are expected in districts including Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang, Zunheboto and Peren during this period. Some districts like Kiphire, Phek and Zunheboto may see a slight improvement in weather towards March 20 and 21.Cloudy to overcast skies are also likely at times in areas such as Kohima, Wokha, Niuland and Tseminyu. The NSDMA has advised people to remain alert and take necessary precautions. Residents have been asked to avoid open areas during lightning, stay indoors during storms, and ensure safety measures to prevent any damage.
