NSCN-R issues statement on assault incident, pledges justice for victims

The Akato-led faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-R) has expressed deep regret over the December 17 assault incident involving several of its cadres. In a statement issued on December 22, the group conveyed its sorrow over the actions, emphasizing that the incident was not reflective of the organization’s official stance.

The group revealed that, following an internal enquiry, it was found that some of its members, including Jonathan Poumai, Lamtsaba Sangtam, and Kakuho Achumi, had “connived with some public and perpetrated the reprehensible conduct.”

In response to the findings, the NSCN-R stated that these actions were personal in nature and did not represent the actions of the organization or its government. The statement clarified that the accused individuals had been terminated from the group and disowned to allow the legal system to take its course impartially.
