The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) asserted on February 12 that the Framework Agreement signed with the Government of India should not be equated with the Agreed Position agreed upon between the Indian government and the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (WC NNPGs).
In a statement issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity, the NSCN-IM criticized the Agreed Position as merely an extension of Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution, describing it as a tactical creation by Indian agencies. The group emphasized that negotiations with the NNPGs concluded in October 2019, making alignment with the Framework Agreement challenging.
The NSCN-IM expressed gratitude to 21 Members of Parliament for raising concerns over the status of the Indo-Naga talks, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor the commitments of the historic August 3, 2015, Framework Agreement. The group highlighted Modi’s earlier recognition of the agreement as a breakthrough in resolving Southeast Asia’s longest-running insurgency.
The group also reaffirmed the historical and political rights of the Nagas under the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), cautioning against any compromise on commitments to Naga independence movements. It urged swift action from the Indian government to avoid escalating regional tensions and ensure a peaceful resolution.
