Rozgar Mela 2.0 opened to an overwhelming response on Saturday, with thousands of young jobseekers gathering as more than 60 top Indian companies launched recruitment for over 10,000 positions across banking, IT, manufacturing, tourism, aviation and healthcare. The mega fair, organised by the Darjeeling Welfare Society, is attracting candidates from North Bengal, the hills and neighbouring districts.
Major employers including HDFC, Axis Bank, Bandhan Bank, Hero MotoCorp, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Electronics, Taj Group, ITC, Indigo Airlines and Apollo Hospitals began their hiring activities with a 100% in-person selection process. Aspirants first underwent career counselling before participating in personal interviews, group discussions and screening rounds, ensuring clarity and smooth engagement with recruiters.
In Guwahati, recruiters say the surge seen in Siliguri mirrors expanding job demand across Assam’s capital, particularly in BFSI, hospitality, aviation and electronics. Industry analysts note that large-scale multi-sector job fairs can strengthen regional labour mobility, helping Guwahati employers tap skilled candidates while boosting career opportunities across the Northeast.
Rajya Sabha MP and Darjeeling Welfare Society President Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla said the turnout reflects youth readiness for structured opportunities and aligns with the Prime Minister’s Viksit Bharat vision. MPs Shri Samik Bhattacharya and Shri Jayanto Kumar Roy, along with Shri Ram Lal Ji, lauded the initiative for bridging talent and industry needs.
With several candidates receiving on-spot offers, organisers expect an even larger turnout on Day 2.
