Non-Functioning Tribal Girls’ Hostel: TYCM Threatens Agitation

On March 24, the Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM) announced plans to escalate democratic agitation in response to the Manipur government’s inaction regarding the establishment of a Tribal Girls’ Hostel at Old Lambulane, Imphal—an issue that has been pending since an ultimatum was issued on January 28, 2025. This decision resulted from a Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting on March 9. In a press release, the TYCM expressed profound disappointment over the government’s neglect of tribal girl students’ needs, particularly those from remote areas who are forced to rent accommodations in Imphal amidst financial difficulties faced by their families, primarily reliant on paddy cultivation. The council emphasized that without the hostel’s operation, the initiative’s intent becomes futile, adversely affecting the educational opportunities and careers of these students. The TYCM indicated that the specific methods of their agitation would be determined at a later date.
