A mild earthquake, measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale, was felt in parts of Manipur and adjoining Nagaland on Friday, according to officials. A disaster management official in Manipur confirmed that the tremor was felt in northern Manipur’s Ukhrul district and adjoining Nagaland. The district shares a border with Myanmar.
There have been no reports of casualties or damage to property. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) indicates that the quake originated from a depth of 30 km below the surface.
The mountainous northeastern states, including Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur, have experienced successive earthquakes, prompting authorities to prioritize the construction of quake-proof structures.
