Campus recruitment at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur has seen a 10-15% decline, attributed to the ongoing conflict in the state. Institute officials cite concerns over stability as a key factor impacting placement opportunities for students.
Dr. Johnson Singh, Training and Placement Officer at NIT Manipur, noted that while some companies are hesitant to visit the campus, virtual recruitment drives have been underway since August. “Contrary to reports of a 40% decline, the drop is closer to 10-15%. Out of 140 eligible students, 70 have already secured placements, with efforts ongoing to engage more companies,” he said.
For the 2024-25 session, 40 companies have confirmed participation, with plans to resume offline recruitment by the next semester. Last year, 100 out of 130 students were placed despite fewer challenges. NIT Manipur’s Registrar, Kh. Tomba Singh, highlighted the impact of lockdowns and curfews, which have created a “fear psychosis” among recruiters. He urged companies to recognize the safety of the institute’s location in Imphal and called on the public to foster a positive narrative for the state.Despite hurdles, NIT Manipur remains committed to ensuring better placement outcomes and preparing students for the competitive job market.
