The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated suo motu cognizance following a media report regarding the physical assault of a woman from Manipur in the Malviya Nagar area of South Delhi on March 8. The NHRC stated that if the allegations reported are accurate, they depict a grave violation of the victim’s human rights. Consequently, the Commission has issued a notice to the Delhi Police Commissioner, demanding a comprehensive report within two weeks regarding the incident, which should detail the victim’s health status and the progress of the investigation. The incident, as reported on March 10, took place while the victim was photographing with a friend in a local park.
