A parliamentary committee has stated that an existing law governing the federal investigation agency has “many limitations” and that new legislation is necessary to define its status, duties, and powers. It did this by pointing out the withdrawal of general consent for CBI investigation by many states.
The federal investigation agency was founded in 1963. The Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, which was passed to control how the special police establishment, which was established in 1941 to look into cases of bribery and corruption concerning purchases and supplies during World War II, operated, governs it.
The DSPE Act’s provisions require the approval of the state government, according to the department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice.
