NDA allies’ seat-sharing arrangement in Assam to be finalized by Feb 15, says Himanta

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam is set to finalize its seat-sharing arrangement with its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners by February 15, as stated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. During an official program on Wednesday, Sarma mentioned his recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, where they discussed the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for March-April. The BJP is currently allied with several parties, including the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). Additionally, the Rabha Hasong Joutha Sangram Samiti (RHJSS) and the Janashakti Party (JP) are part of the NDA in Assam.

Sarma indicated that the seat-sharing arrangements with the AGP and smaller partners will be formalized imminently. Prior discussions occurred involving UPPL president Pramod Boro, alongside conversations Sarma had with AGP president Atul Bora. Despite not explaining the one-month delay in finalizing the arrangements, Sarma expressed confidence that the discussions are proceeding amicably and that a consensus will be achieved without any issues. He also highlighted that new candidates often have electoral advantages, a trend expected to continue in the upcoming elections.
