NCB busts drug racket in Manipur

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized over seven kilograms of heroin in Manipur and arrested two men in this connection.
The arrested accused are members of a racket involved in trafficking of drugs from Myanmar. Both of them are residents of Churachandpur district.
The operation, conducted  on Wednesday, led to recovery of a contraband valued at about Rs 15 crore in the international market.
A team from NCB Imphal zone in coordination with the Assam rifles intercepted a four-wheeler near the India-Myanmar border and recovered 7.31 kg of heroin, which was found concealed within 638 plastic soap cases, a source said.
According to him, preliminary probe indicates that the drugs originated from the Haichin region in Myanmar. The traffickers used dense forest corridors in Manipur to transport the consignment, trying to bypass regular police surveillance and security checkpoints.
