NASA to Train Bhutanese and Nepali Students in Climate Monitoring

NASA has announced that students from Bhutan, Nepal, and other Himalayan countries will be eligible for its newly expanded Earth Watch Fellowship, aimed at training young scientists in satellite-based climate monitoring.

Participants will engage in remote sensing, glacial tracking, and deforestation mapping — critical for regions affected by Himalayan climate change.

The program will be conducted in collaboration with local universities and government agencies. Indian institutions in Uttarakhand and Sikkim have welcomed the news, as cross-border environmental cooperation becomes increasingly vital in the face of melting glaciers and erratic weather.
