Nagaland patient undergoes successful robotic gallbladder surgery at Fortis Bengaluru

Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru, successfully performed a robotic-assisted gallbladder removal surgery on a 65-year-old male patient from Nagaland. The advanced procedure, led by Dr. Sreedhara V, Director of GI, Minimal Access & Bariatric Surgery, highlights the growing role of robotic technology in complex surgeries.

The patient, identified as Mr. Danny (name changed), had been suffering from gallbladder stones for over four months, experiencing severe pain for the past two weeks. His son, based in Bengaluru, urged him to seek treatment at Fortis, where he was diagnosed with Acute Calculous Cholecystitis (ACC), a condition causing severe inflammation due to gallstone blockage. The robotic-assisted surgery, which lasted less than 25 minutes, resulted in minimal discomfort and a significantly reduced recovery period. The patient was discharged within a day.

Dr. Sreedhara V emphasized that robotic surgery offers a minimally invasive alternative with greater precision, minimal scarring, and a lower risk of complications. “This procedure allows patients to return to normal life much faster. If left untreated, ACC can lead to serious complications, including infections and jaundice,” he said.

Nagaland’s healthcare sector can benefit immensely from such advanced medical procedures. While robotic-assisted surgeries remain rare in India, with fewer than 100 surgeons performing them regularly, access to such cutting-edge treatment can revolutionize surgical care for Nagaland’s patients, reducing the need to travel long distances for specialized medical interventions. Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru remains committed to embracing innovative technology for better patient outcomes. “We continue to offer world-class healthcare solutions, ensuring patients receive the best treatment with the latest advancements,” said Mr. AkshayOleti, Business Head of Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru.
