A five-day ‘Mahila Jan Sunwai’ (public hearing for women) is ongoing at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Chumukedima from March 9, organized by the National Commission for Women and the Nagaland State Commission for Women. The initiative addresses issues like domestic violence, sexual harassment, abandonment, and trafficking, while also raising awareness about government support for women. Kekhrienuo Meyase, a member of the state commission, emphasized the need for increased awareness of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act). The hearings aim to facilitate direct interaction between women and legal authorities, promoting immediate redressal of grievances through dedicated benches comprised of various stakeholders. Complaints will be accepted until March 13.
