The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), operating under the Home Department, has issued a statewide weather advisory, warning of continued rainfall and thunderstorms in several districts till April 15, 2025. The advisory comes as the region braces for a spell of unpredictable weather, with potential disruptions to normal life in lowland and hill-foothill areas.
According to the official bulletin issued by NSDMA, light to moderate rainfall is expected to persist across most parts of the state over the next week. Isolated areas may witness intense thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds, particularly during late evening hours.
Districts including Kohima, Mokokchung, Longleng, Mon, Noklak, Kiphire, Peren, Phek, Shamator, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha, and Zunheboto have been identified as regions likely to experience consistent rainfall. Meanwhile, areas such as Dimapur, Nuiland, Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli—primarily located in low-lying zones—are at risk of waterlogging and flash floods due to runoff from higher elevations.
NSDMA has urged residents across the state to remain cautious, especially while commuting or engaging in outdoor activities. “The possibility of strong winds and lightning makes it critical for citizens to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid sheltering under trees or near electric poles,” the authority stated.
The advisory also warned of potential disruptions in power supply and communication networks in affected regions, urging residents to prepare in advance by securing backup power sources, storing essential supplies, and staying informed through verified channels.
All District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have been placed on high alert, with emergency response teams instructed to remain on standby. Coordination with local administrations and relevant departments is ongoing to ensure rapid response in case of flash floods, landslides, or other weather-induced hazards.
