Nagaland meeting criticized for ignoring people’s will

The recent Nagaland State Government Consultative Meeting on the political solution, held on September 12, 2024, has been sharply criticized by former Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President K. Therie. Therie called the meeting “futile and a waste,” accusing the state’s leadership of being driven by personal ambitions rather than addressing the people’s will.

Therie expressed frustration that the organizations present failed to adequately represent the voices of the people. He emphasized the importance of the two existing agreements and the conclusion of peace talks on October 31, 2019, urging their immediate implementation rather than reopening negotiations.

He also condemned the meeting’s resolution, which called for the appointment of a new interlocutor, viewing it as a deviation from the agreements signed with national leaders. “These agreements were made in the presence of national leaders and should remain intact,” Therie remarked.
