Nagaland Government unveils Mobile Surgery unit to serve remote communities

The Nagaland government marked the 76th Republic Day with a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming healthcare delivery in the state’s remote regions. The Chief Minister’s Mobile Operation Theatre (CMMOT) was officially launched on January 26, 2025, by Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio during a ceremonial flag-off at the secretariat plaza in Kohima.

Designed to bridge healthcare disparities, the CMMOT is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to deliver advanced surgical and diagnostic services to rural and underserved communities. It represents a significant step towards achieving health equity in the state.

The mobile unit boasts cutting-edge features, including:

Keyhole Surgery Capabilities: Enabling minimally invasive procedures.
Diagnostic Tools: Portable equipment such as ultrasound, X-ray, endoscopy, and blood testing devices.
Comprehensive Surgical Facilities: Fully equipped for life-saving operations in remote locations.
A dedicated medical team from Kohima Hospital, supported by both government and private healthcare professionals, will operate the unit. This collaboration ensures high-quality care is delivered directly to the doorsteps of underprivileged communities.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio emphasized the initiative’s potential to bridge the gap between urban healthcare facilities and rural needs. “This mobile operation theatre is a testament to our commitment to ensuring no one is left behind in accessing essential healthcare services,” he said.
