Nagaland forms committee to investigate JJM irregularities

The Nagaland Transparency Public Rights Advocacy and Direct Action Organization (NTPRADAO People’s Justice) has welcomed the formation of a four-member Departmental Enquiry Committee (DEC) to investigate alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Nagaland. Calling the move a “moral victory” for the people, the organization announced the indefinite suspension of its planned public protests and mass agitation, as the state government has conceded to its demand for an inquiry.

The committee, chaired by Cooperation Commissioner and Secretary Zarenthung Ezung, includes Swachh Bharat Mission–Gramin Director Gwatilo Tep, Treasuries & Accounts Additional Director Amenla Jamir, and Deputy Secretary PHE Amentoli Anar as member secretary. It will review project implementation against Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and JJM guidelines, verify Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) data with on-ground progress, and investigate complaints or grievances.

In a statement, NTPRADAO (PJ) thanked Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for his proactive stance, emphasizing the importance of transparency and justice in the committee’s work. The organization vowed to act as an “unrelenting watchdog,” closely monitoring the inquiry’s progress and scrutinizing its findings.The committee is expected to submit its report within 45 days.
