Nagaland establishes a command and control center to improve the management of soil health

Nagaland on Monday commissioned a new Command and Control Center (CCC) at the Directorate of Soil & Water Conservation, aimed at enhancing data-driven agricultural management and improving outreach to farmers. The center was inaugurated by Imkong L. Imchen, Advisor for IPR and Soil & Water Conservation. Funded jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, and the Government of Nagaland under the Soil Health and Fertility component of the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), the CCC is designed to provide real-time insights on soil conditions and crop health. It also acts as a direct communication hub for farmers through a toll-free number (+91 7965192504) for queries related to soil and fertility management.

Speaking at the launch, Imchen highlighted that the center would reduce the workload of field staff and enable better decision-making for farmers. “Trust between officers and farmers is vital for the department’s progress and for adopting innovative technologies in sustainable soil and water management,” he said, while also noting that financial constraints had previously limited the department’s ability to fully implement projects despite skilled personnel.

Director of Soil & Water Conservation, L. Chubaonen, explained that the CCC functions as a centralized digital hub integrating ICT tools and GIS platforms. It will monitor soil fertility trends, generate fertilizer recommendations, manage soil health card data, and coordinate real-time decision-making across districts. The center features a dedicated data server, GIS mapping software, video conferencing tools, and connected workstations to improve communication between the Ministry, district units, and field officers.
